Rebel Concepts Hobby Centre is family-owned and operated by myself, Troy Johnson, and my fiancé Nicole Atherton. We are located in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
I am a father/stepfather of 3 wonderful teenagers who all call Chilliwack home, Tristan, Nathan, and Dezirae. I’ve been in and out of the RC hobby since I was very young and always dreamed of one day owning a hobby store. I always envisioned it as a place where everyone loved to come in, ask questions, and get proper knowledge so they could learn and be confident with accurate advice given, and not be led astray by sales tactics.
When the opportunity presented itself to purchase the hobby store, that I had frequented for the last 7+ years, I decided to leave my good job as a pump installer with a small local company, and Nicole left her career in the medical field at a local hospital just a few months shy of 20 years of service. Nicole had never been into anything RC or RC-related until we met a few years earlier. Nicole loves a challenge and has crushed the learning curve that comes with this hobby.
How the opportunity presented itself… Nicole and I walked into Rebel Concepts Hobby Centre in December 2022 looking for a drone for our younger son for Christmas. That day I made a joke about buying the store to her as the owner had just mentioned it was for sale, and of course, she ignored me! I often say things to get a rise out of her but nothing seems to faze her anymore. A couple of days later I mentioned it to her again with little to no response. I was persistent and after bringing it up 4 or 5 times I sat her down and looked her square in her eyes, determined to get some sort of rise out of her I said “I’m buying that hobby store, with or without you but would prefer you buy it with me”. Well, my bluff turned into reality quickly as she said yes let’s do it. That was late January 2023, by April 4th, 2023 we became the proud new owners of Rebel Concepts Hobby Centre!
